My apologies for such a wall of text, but I wanted to give a bit of detail to better explain myself. I am well aware that the whole “maybe it’s just not for you” argument could very well apply to all turn-based games in my case, but I am absolutely determined to get into them and convinced I’m just missing out on something.Īgain, I do understand that they may just not be for me, but I want to ask those of you who do enjoy these games for any advice you may have that could better help me to get into these games and give them a more fair shot than I have been able to so far before I admit defeat and accept the fact that I’ll just have to miss out on all that story and gameplay. I’ve gotten maybe three hours into the first Pathfinder game on Steam and will admit that it’s probably just not for me since I’m not really a fan of DnD. There’s just so much story and so much gameplay I’m missing out on because apparently I’m just too dumb to play them. I have purchased a number of turn-based games on Steam and GoG because I really, really want to like them. I don’t play DnD so I’m not really familiar with it and the games that have systems like that don’t really do a swell job at telling me how it works. And gear having a “d” followed by a number, like “d10,” for example, where the “10” is replaced with a seemingly random number. I can’t really figure out what’s even happening half the time (though, admittedly, that’s probably because I quit before really trying). It’s like a violent game of HORSE, except with weaponry instead of a basketball and I find it difficult to remain immersed.Īnother thing I keep getting hung up on is the “dice roll” system some turn-based games have that I just can’t really wrap my head around. One of the issues I’m trying to get past is the fact that my character has to just stand there and take it when an enemy is hitting them, then said enemy politely informs me they are finished and will stand in place while I retaliate. In theory, turn-based games should be right up my alley, but I can never seem to manage more than an hour or so before closing out the game and playing something else (and then usually forgetting about the game entirely). I like a bit of the “boring” stuff and intricate details in games and like having tons of options to play the way I want. I don’t like “dumbed-down” games or having my hand held through a game, nor do I think I have to be in constant action at all times. There are so many games I want to play and enjoy for both of those aspects, but they’re turn-based and I find myself bored out of my skull almost immediately out of the gate. I love RPGs and I love games with long, deep stories.
